I miked my kit with 19 microphones on a Soundcraft Signature 22mtk. The only way of doing thid is to use the stereo inputs and stero signals are overheads and roommics. These mics need 48V so i went first for some Behringer Ultragains. That worked well at a certain level.

some report

  • Initially, I purchased it on the advice of my local sound tech as I was looking to add quiet gain to a pair of Apex 205 ribbon mics that I had purchased.
  • It sounds like they are doing something weird in this situation.
  • Product DetailsThe ART Digital MPA delivers all of the same great features of the ProMPA with the added versatility of digital output.
  • The SPL Gold Mike costs only slightly more than the Pro MPA2 and is still top of my favourites list for affordable tube preamps, though it doesn’t have as many features as the Pro MPA2.
  • This preamp only has 2 outputs and claims to „decode“ the phase shift from the figure 8 mic.

When I switch to an xlr cable with a regular microphone, it does register, but still has the horrible buzzing, although, not as bad as the Rhode. I was hoping to use this system to get louder recordings for my videos. It might be that she simply overloaded the microphone.

Great Tube Pre

Switchable valve voltage and variable drive provide a range of useful ‚warmth‘ options. The rear panel of the MPA luckystriketattoo.ca/ Pro2 sports balanced analogue inputs and outputs, and +4dBU/-10dBV switching. Your purchases also help protect forests, including trees traditionally used to make instruments.

You will be surprised how dramatic the difference in sound is. The variable impedance control is infinitely variable allowing much finer control and the ability to tune the preamp to the microphone’s ideal sweet spot. A continuously variable 15 to 150Hz High Pass Filter at the input increases control of the microphone source.

But you would switch that TRS input to LINE in, not instrument. Use XLR to TRS cables to go from the ART to your interface line input. Hi Jessica, the ART USB is an audio interface just like the Mbox. You have to use one or the other, not both together. Let’s say you have a standalone mic pre , and an outboard compressor and EQ how’d you then connect them a to an I/O .

Phase reverse flips the phase of the audio waves, OPL is the limiter function, gain norm might be a gain boost. Doing comparisons of vocals straight into my interface vs using this preamp in front was a night-and-day difference. Pending on your settings, there can be quite a bit of coloration, but it’s a good coloration. The vocal opens up quite a bit, sounding less boxy and having more high end, but also smoother in a way. One of the most important aspects of the Digital MPA-II – and what separates it from its brother, the Pro MPA-II – is its built-in A/D converter, with S/PDIF, ADAT, and AES/EBU outputs. Thanks to that variety of connectors, it’s easy to add the Digital MPA-II to almost any interface setup you have.

Last thing is don’t go half way because you’ll be disappointed. Use either the Psvane ,Genalex Gold Lions or Northern Electric. The combination of these controls allows the user to adjust the signal level through the tube section, providing more or less “tube” sound as needed. To obtain more “tube’ sound, increase input gain, use the +20dB Gain switch, “normal” plate voltage, and less Analog output gain. You can use any high-quality condenser, dynamic or ribbon microphone with the Pro MPA II.

About This Product

It’s the only tube driven preamp on this list, and it sounds really good. Especially on vocals, it gives warmth that is not too smooth, with a crystal like edge on it. But also on bass, where it gives the sound that nice tubey edge.

Are there any other cheaper alternatives with very clean conversion? I plan to record vocals and acoustic guitar by using one mic only. I wish you could shed some light and help me out here.

The tubes are very fine for this preamp . Although they were made in China , the sound is also great for this $ preamp . I have an ART Pro Audio Tube Mic Preamp but it has an issue, the output knot does not work. I know this is a lot to digest and kind of confusing but if you are struggling with this question yourself, I think its an important distinction. I’m definitely going to be paying a lot more attention to cable types moving forward. Honestly though if I push the input up at all on the interface the clip light blinks red meaning I have to run the external pre and compressor very low.
